Building Content in Canvas

You can access and create content using the Rich Content Editor from Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, Pages, Classic Quizzes, New Quizzes, and the Syllabus.

In the toolbar, you can format text, insert links, images, media, and documents, open external tools, format paragraphs, clear formatting, add tables, insert an equation, and embed media. The toolbar is fixed at the top of the browser window when content is long enough to require a scroll bar.

If enabled by your institution, the Rich Content Editor Icon Maker allows you to make icons in your course within the Rich Content Editor.

Benefits of the RCE

      • Share multiple, related content: Use Pages to deliver content to students in one place, without requiring students to make a submission.
      • Design with the Rich Content Editor (RCE): Add images, files, record or upload multimedia content, and embed external tools to enhance your pages and make content more interactive, announcements more eye-catching, Quizzes or Discussions more engaging, etc.
      • Link directly to course content: Course Links allow you to add direct links to other Pages, Assignments, Quizzes, Announcements, Discussions, Modules, or other course navigation areas.
      • Accessibility: The Accessibility Checker helps you identify and correct some of the most common accessibility issues.
      • Collaboration: Use Pages as collaborative wiki pages that students can edit, while allowing the instructor to see and monitor the edits.
