 Home Page Options

The Course Home Page is the first page students see when they open a course. You can change your Course Home Page to reflect one of five layout options: the Recent Activity Dashboard, Pages Front Page, the Course Modules, the Assignment List, or the Syllabus.

You must set a Front Page before selecting the Pages Front Page option. Additionally, only published pages can be set as the Front Page.

In some views, the To Do List and the Coming Up section are visible. The Coming Up section shows assignments and events due in the next seven days. Furthermore, the Coming Up section displays up to 20 items ordered according to date.

If you do not have a course template, the default Home Page is the Course Modules once you open your course.

Setting Up Your Home Page

Using a customized Content Page as the Course Home Page is considered a best practice in Canvas Course Design. Content Pages are fully customizable with images, buttons, and media options. Many Canvas institutions have a Ready Made Template with the Home Page already designed with some of these elements. However, if that is not the case for your institution, there are a variety of available Home Page Templates available in the Commons, or you may choose to create your own.

Below is an example of a Home Page Template.
