Dashboard

The Dashboard is the first thing users see when they log into Canvas. You can navigate back to the dashboard at any time by clicking Dashboard in the Global Navigation. The Dashboard helps users see what is happening in all of their current courses. Depending on your institution, your Dashboard may default to one of two views: Card View or Recent Activity View. Choose the More Options Menu, which appears as three vertical dots near the top right of your Dashboard to change views.

Card View: displays course cards for quick access to all your favorite courses.

Each card can include up to four main Canvas features for student course activity: Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, and Files.

In this view, images and color overlays can be customized for the specific course. This feature allows Canvas users to easily identify courses To learn more, see 2.2 | Dashboard & Course List | Overview | Video ?.

When choosing images, consider the content and level of the course. Images of a textbook, a subject related image (atom for chemistry), or even a meeting time may be appropriate.

Recent Activity View: displays all recent activities for all courses.

NOTE - If you cannot view your courses on your Canvas Dashboard, you may need to favorite the course in your Course list. See the section below regarding the Course List.

Course List

The Course List shows a list of all courses currently displayed on your Dashboard. Courses will be ones that you may be enrolled in as the instructor or possibly enrolled as a student. From here you can see a list of All Courses, including past enrollments. Any current courses can be favorited by choosing the star icon. If your Courses list does not display your course, talk to your institution's Canvas Admin for assistance.
