What is a Media Access Control (MAC) Address used for?
A Media Access Control (MAC) Address is used to register devices to the BC Network acting like a "fingerprint" for each individual device. You will need to find your device MAC Address for most smart devices you want to register to the BC Network.
Devices such as your phone, laptops, and desktops may be registered without needing to know your MAC Address. Before using any device on the network, you must first register your device. If you are not sure on the registration process, click here to check out our registration articles.
How to find your MAC Address of smart devices for Wireless Connections
Here are the instructions for finding your MAC address on most devices. If the device you are trying to connect is not listed, please check your device's manual, or run a Google Search on your device. If you are still having issues with locating your device's MAC address, please submit a ticket.
How to find your MAC Address of devices that have Wired Connections (Ethernet/LAN Connection)
If you have registered your device wirelessly and also plan to use it via the Wired Network, you will also need to register it as it has a separate MAC Address for Wired Connections. We highly recommend using a Wired connection whenever possible as your connection is more stable and faster when connected via an Ethernet Connection. Roku TV
- Press the "Home" button on the remote.
- Scroll and select the Settings.
- Scroll and select Network.
- Scroll and select About.
- Find the Wireless/Wired MAC address.
Mac OS
- Open the Apple menu
- Click System Preferences.
- Select Network
- Select your network connection and click Advanced
- You will find the MAC Address displayed towards the bottom of the window
Windows
- Click on the "Windows" Icon in the bottom left corner.
- Type "command prompt" and hit enter.
- Type "ipconfig /all" and hit enter.
- Find your devices "Physical address" under Ethernet or Wireless.
Chrome OS
- Click the Wi-Fi network icon.
- At the top of the box, click information.
- You will see the MAC Address displayed as the Wi-Fi Address.
XBOX One
- Go to the XBOX dashboard.
- Select Settings.
- Select Network.
- Select Advanced Settings.
- Towards the bottom of the screen, you will see Wireless/Wired MAC Address.
XBOX Series X/S
- Go to the XBOX dashboard.
- Go to system
- Select Settings
- Select Network
- Select Network Settings
- Select Advanced Settings
- It should be listed on the right side panel
PlayStation 4
- Open Menu
- Select Settings.
- Select Network.
- Select View Connection Status.
- Locate MAC Address
PlayStation 5
- At the home screen of your PS5, select the "Settings" icon at the top right corner.
- Select System.
- Select System Software
- Select Console Information
- You will see Wired/Wireless MAC addresses
Nintendo
Amazon Echo Dot
- Download and install Amazon Alexa app
- Sign in to your Amazon account
- From your mobile device, connect to the wireless network your Alexa is broadcasting.
- The Wireless MAC can be found at the bottom of the Setup Screen.
Google Home
- On the "Connect to Wi-Fi" step, tap the 3 dots on the upper right portion of the screen.
- Select "Show MAC Address
Note: On iOS, this option appears at the bottom of the display, while Android phones sow it at the top of the screen.
